Silver Hills Gems newsletter.
This is our final newsletter on caring and storing your jewellery: Part 3
Good day everybody at Silver Hills!
I can't believe that it's almost CHRISTMAS!
The years are flying by faster with every blink of an eye! But
before we start feeling old&ldots; We have some great news for
all the gemstone string fans this week! We have got the most
amazing Sardonyx and agate strings that we are uploading! We updated
our chipstrings like the large
carnelian and the top
grade snowflake obsidian are now in stock again.
We also got a consignment of silver jewelry last week, thank you so
much for those of you who checked it out this weekend and placed
orders for it. We really do appreciate your business. And with that
said, the items are flying fast so if you want to get your hands on a
piece the clock is ticking rapidly!!! It being Christmas and all&ldots;
We also got the most beautiful smoky quartz and quartz pyramids
are precision cut and are really offered at a very good price.
The agate
pendants that were so popular last time are also back in stock
but we could only get a limited amount of stock on those so they will
not be here for as long as we wish&ldots;
And if you didn't see on our website yet, and as we've
mentioned before we are stocking the new Swarovski
xilion beads. The biconne bead is slowly
being phased out by Swarovski and is being replaced by the xilion
which has a lot more facets and gives it a lot more shine but is
still exactly the same size. Taking your Swarovski bling level up a
notch! So please feel free to over indulge!
May your week be filled with joy and may the Christmas spirit slowly
but surely start tickling in the back of you neck.
Cornel, Gerdus and all the Silver Hills staff.
Take Off Your Bling When You Exercise.
Jewelry is an important accessory, but it's not necessary to wear it
24/7. Although exercising regularly is good for your body, it's
not so good for your jewelry, so remember to remove your rings and
other baubles before hitting the gym. High-impact sports and
other forms of exercise can cause you to accidently chip scratch or
crack your beaded jewelry. For those who enjoy a dip in the
pool, strong chemicals such as chlorine can damage many stones as
well as metals. I you feel totally naked without some jewelry on,
limit you adornments to small post or hoop earrings and maybe that
must-wear ring.
Keep It Clean
After you start to get a pretty fair collection of jewelry - and as a
jewelry maker, that will happen as you slowly become addicted to this
wonderful craft - remember to periodically clean your jewelry
collection. This accomplishes a few different things.
First of all, and most importantly, your jewelry will always be ready
to wear when you want to wear it. Nothing is more irritating
than rushing around getting ready to go to work and planning to wear
a particular piece of jewelry , only to discover it's so tarnished
that you'd be ashamed to be seen with it on. Secondly, if you
keep your jewelry clean and well cared for, it will last much longer.
For metal jewelry, such as silver or gold, you can make your own
homemade cleaning solution using a recipe often referred to in
jewelry circles as super cleaner. This cleaner is for jewelry
that's all metal. Don't use this with any pieces strung on beading
wire, silk, or other types of stringing medium, because
extended soaking can damage the stringing material.
You use household chemicals to make this solution, but these
are, well, chemicals, so keep the kids and pets out of this,
work in a well ventilated area when mixing and using the
cleaner, and follow the manufacturers' warnings.
Okay, on to the cleaning solution:
1.In a pickle jar, combine2.5cm of cleaning detergent like Mr. Muscle
2.5 cm of dishwashing liquid like Sunlight liquid
2.5 cm of ammonia
Fill the rest of the container with water. Shake well.
2.Heat the solution in the microwave (remove the metal lid first), or
put it in an old pot (one you don't use for food and never will
after this) and simmer it on the stovetop.
The solutions should be heat to just below the boiling point.
3.Remove the cleaning solution from the heat source. Place your
jewelry (silver or gold) into the solution and let it sit for about
10 minutes.
4.Remove the jewelry from the solution, rinse it well with water and
dry it with a paper towel.
Put on your sunglasses because these babies will be super clean now!
Over time, the solution will evaporate, but you can continue to
reheat and use it over and over again until it's gone.
Make yourself pretty, then add shine
We're bombarded by chemicals today, and that doesn't refer to the
prepackaged foods we eat. Most of us on a regular basis cover
ourselves with perfumes and hairsprays, and decorate our faces with
and assortment of makeup. So go ahead and use your special mix
of beauty products, but remember to dab them on before you put your
jewelry on rather than after. Your jewelry and you shoes should
be the last items you put on before you walk out the door.
Looking forward to hear from you all. Remember you make the world go round or bead it up.
